STD test prices on Koh Samui range from a few hundred baht for a single rapid test to several thousand baht for a full lab panel. In our 2026 research, basic HIV and syphilis checks typically started at around 600–1,000 THB, while full screening packages often ran from about 3,500 to 7,500 THB.
Those figures are typical market ranges, not quotes, and they change. For our own current prices, message us and we will tell you exactly what each option includes.
The good news: you rarely need every test. Choosing the right tests at the right time saves money and gives more reliable results.
What affects STD test prices
The same "STD test" can mean very different things. Before comparing prices, it helps to know what drives the cost.
- Rapid vs lab tests. Rapid finger-prick tests are cheaper and quicker. Lab tests, especially PCR, cost more but detect some infections that rapid tests cannot.
- How many infections are covered. A two-test check costs far less than a 10-plus infection panel.
- Which body sites are swabbed. Chlamydia and gonorrhoea can live in the throat or rectum, and each site may be a separate test.
- Extra fees. Some prices exclude the doctor's consultation or a service charge. Always ask.

Single STD test prices (typical 2026 ranges)
The table below shows typical prices we found published by clinics and hospitals on Koh Samui and elsewhere in Thailand in 2026. They are not our prices. Message us for our current price.
Single STD test prices on Koh Samui and in Thailand
| Test | Sample | Result time | Typical range (THB) |
|---|---|---|---|
| HIV (4th generation) | Finger-prick or blood | 20 min to 1–2 days | About 500–1,500 |
| Syphilis | Finger-prick or blood | 20 min to 1–2 days | About 400–800 |
| Chlamydia and gonorrhoea (PCR) | Urine or swab | About 1–3 days | About 2,500–3,500 |
| Hepatitis B | Finger-prick or blood | 20 min to 1–2 days | About 500–900 |
| Hepatitis C | Finger-prick or blood | 20 min to 1–2 days | About 500–900 |
| Herpes (HSV blood test) | Blood | About 1–3 days | About 1,000–2,500 |
A doctor's consultation, where not included, typically added around 500–1,000 THB at private clinics in our research.
A note on herpes testing
Many doctors do not recommend a herpes blood test if you have no symptoms, because results can be hard to interpret. If you have a sore or blister, a swab of the sore is usually more useful. Ask before paying for it.

STD test packages compared
Packages bundle several tests, often at a lower price than buying them one by one. The key is picking the level that matches your situation.
Basic, standard and full STD packages (typical 2026 ranges)
| Package | Usually includes | Typical range (THB) | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | HIV and syphilis (rapid) | About 600–1,000 | Quick routine check, low recent risk |
| Standard | HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and C | About 1,500–2,500 | Blood-borne infections check, new partner |
| Full | Standard plus chlamydia and gonorrhoea PCR, sometimes more infections | About 3,500–7,500 | Condomless sex, symptoms, several partners |
If you have symptoms such as discharge, burning when you pee or a sore, tell the doctor. They may suggest targeted tests rather than a big panel, and treatment where needed.

Timing: do not pay to test too early
Most STIs need time before they show on a test. Testing too soon can give a false sense of safety and cost you a second visit.
- Chlamydia and gonorrhoea: usually about 2 weeks after exposure.
- Syphilis: blood tests may take several weeks to turn positive, so a repeat may be advised.
- HIV: a lab 4th-generation test is very informative from about 4–6 weeks, confirmed at about 3 months.
- Hepatitis B and C: can take longer, so a doctor may suggest a repeat.
If a doctor has advised different timings for you, follow their plan. For HIV exposures in the last 72 hours, testing is not enough: ask about PEP straight away, because PEP must be started within 72 hours. Read our step-by-step plan for the first 72 hours after a condom breaks.

Public vs private testing on Koh Samui
Both public hospitals and private clinics offer STD testing. Here is how they tend to compare for visitors.
Public vs private STD testing
| Public hospital | Private clinic | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical cost | Lower, often under about 1,500 THB for a check-up | Higher, especially for PCR panels |
| Waiting time | Can be several hours | Usually short, often walk-in |
| Language | Varies | English commonly spoken |
| Privacy | Busy shared areas | Smaller, more discreet |
| Test range | May be more limited | Wider choice, including PCR panels |
Thai nationals may be able to get some tests free or at low cost through the public health system. Visitors usually pay, and rules can change.

Why testing is worth it
The World Health Organization notes in its fact sheet on sexually transmitted infections that most STIs have no symptoms. It also lists chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis and trichomoniasis as curable with treatment.
That is why testing matters, even when you feel fine. Finding an infection early means simpler treatment and protects your partners.
What happens if a test is positive?
A positive result is common and nothing to be ashamed of. Bacterial infections such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea and syphilis are usually treated with a short course of antibiotics chosen by a doctor. Viral infections such as hepatitis B, herpes and HIV can be managed well with the right care.
The doctor will explain what the result means, whether a retest is needed and when it is safe to have sex again. They can also help you think about telling recent partners.
